Beaumont R. Hagebak
Born and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Beaumont R. Hagebak joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in the Occupation of Germany. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Northern Iowa, and his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Arizona State University. He became Director of the Psychological Services Center at Mankato State University (MN), then Dean at Northland College (WI). In 1972, he relocated to Georgia to work with Governor Carter's administration, developing community mental health facilities throughout the state. He joined the U.S. Public Health Service in 1977 and rose to Acting Regional Health Administrator for an eight state region of the South. Upon retirement, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology in Georgia's university system for ten years. He then retired to California, where his wife of 40 years asked for a divorce, and at age 80, he moved back to Georgia to be near his three sons and their families. He lives in a log cabin in the North Georgia mountains with a large black cat. He is the author of several professional and family history books and many journal articles. He now writes and does watercolor portraits as he tries to age gracefully.
