John J. Cronin, Jr.

Cronin began his GAO career in 1956 and served in an ever-expanding watchdog capacity for thirty-three tumultuous years under six different Presidents. Reader beware, many of his investigations and assignments described herein necessarily had overlapping timelines. This book is a personal chronicle of his most notorious GAO investigations — directly as he witnessed them from the trenches. He led investigations and audits of Watergate, Marcosgate, Irangate, and many others — earning him the nickname “the Gatekeeper.” His activities clearly dispense with the myth that accountants lead dull and boring lives.
